In July 2010, I will begin work as a Lecturer at the University of Queensland in the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies.

I'm interested in how conceptual structure (such as metaphor, metonymy, mental spaces, and category structure) is communicated using language. I believe that in order to understand how conceptual processes are expressed, we need a theory of grammar that recognizes constructional meaning, such as Construction Grammar; a better understanding of how conceptual structures surface in gesture, in artwork, and across various genres of language use; and a model of semantic change that integrates metaphoric extension and inference-based extension.
