Thanks to the participants -- many of them first-time artists -- who attended the atelier and produced the beautiful work shown here: Annalisa Bacchi, Tony Belpaeme, Gideon Borensztajn,
Silvia Cacchiani, Thomas Cederborg, Fiammetta Ghedini, Roberto Locatelli, Cinzia Maida, Damien Munch,
Lameen Souag, Tessa Verhoef, Benjamin Werner, and Istvan Zachar.
Special thanks to Silvia for helping set up the exhibition at the end of the course.
The first day we practiced line and form by sketching two irregularly shaped squash
from the Cortona market:
The second day focused on symmetry, mentally reversing shapes, and drawing distortions:
The third day we looked at negative spaces -- the shapes in between objects that we recognize --
by sketching leaves, branches, and the areas between them. We also used preliminary thumbnail sketches to plan our compositions.
Finally, we went to Cortona to draw architectural forms, perspective, and people.
